Trolling my first “Financial Advisor” Part 3 of 3 – Insurance Policy Pillar 3AB

Hi RIP Friends,

This is the third and last post in a short three posts series about my experience with a Financial Advisor.

Your can read first post here, where I explained how I was cold contacted by her assistant on LinkedIn, and what happened during our first 1h-long video call.

You can also read the second post here, where I analyzed the two Structured Notes that she thought would have been the perfect investments for a risk averse person like “me”.

In this third post we’ll take a look at her final weapon: a Pillar 3A/B with a linked Insurance Policy.

Trolling my first “Financial Advisor” Part 2 of 3 – Structured Notes

Hi RIP Friends,

This is the second post in a short three posts series about my experience with a Financial Advisor. Your can read first post here, where I explained how I was cold contacted on LinkedIn, and what happened during our first 1h-long video call.

The Advisor sent two Structured Notes factsheets to me few weeks after our call.

I won’t tell you much about my conversation with the Advisor like I did in the previous post, it wasn’t a deep conversation. I showed my perplexities to the Advisor in our follow-up meeting and she quickly moved on trying to sell my the next crappy product, the Insurance Policy Pillar 3A/B that we’ll see in next chapter.

I kind of regret having been so direct with her in this second meeting.Β I would have loved to see the Prospect documents, shame on me for not having gone for it. This post would have been much richer if I had gone close to sign a concrete proposal.

Anyway, I how you enjoy this deep analysis of the Structured Products I’ve ben offered.

Have fun, and let’s get started! πŸ™‚

Trolling my first “Financial Advisor” Part 1 of 3 – First Contact

Hi RIP friends,

I got contacted by a financial advisor via LinkedIn out of the blue three months ago. We interacted for a while, and I’m now ready to share this experience with you: the why, the how, and the what (crappy products) they tried to sell me.

To keep things manageable I’ve split this post in three parts. In the first part (this post) I’ll show you their approach, their analysis of my finances, and their marketing tactics. In the Second part we will take a closer look at the first crappy products (Structured Notes) they wanted to sell me. In the third and final part we will destroy the second crappy product (an Insurance based Pillar 3A-3B) they wanted to sell me.

I have a Dream: RIP Coworking!

Hi RIP Readers, today it’s a quick one.

Every single day I pass in front of an empty office in my neighborhood (Zurich Albisrieden/Altstetten) which is on lease since a couple of months. It’s an amazing 80-100sqm office space with a bathroom, at a reasonable price that can probably be negotiated down a bit.

I can’t get rid of this weird desire to renting it, and starting a kind of Coworking space. What an amazing idea for a Covid winter, right? πŸ˜€Β

Hi RIP readers,

welcome to the RIP (Bi)Weekly Learning Journal.

“Whaaaat?? Not two but THREE consecutive WLJ posts? Ok guys, goodbye, unsubscribe, unfollow, ciao RIP, this blog is gone!”

Wait! I know, I know I’ve been a bit absent lately, but I got some news.

“Good news or bad news?”

I hope it’s good news for you πŸ™‚

(Bi)Weekly Learning Journal 8 (9/11/2020)

Hi RIP readers,

welcome to the RIP (Bi)Weekly Learning Journal.

Yeah, it happened: two consecutive WLJ episodes… switching to a biweekly format didn’t help πŸ™‚

Does that mean I’m slacking off? Not interested in writing amazing content anymore?

Absolutely not! I’ve been exceptionally busy with work and family, and all my extra time went into studying my “One Platform to rule them all”, i.e. Roam Research.

So I’ve not been relaxing, do not worry.

And yes, I know I’m behind with comments and emails. I will reply to each one of you, promised.

Next episode on Monday November 23th πŸ™‚

Enjoy!

The Problem with small, EU Domiciled ETFs

Hi RIP readers,

I’m trying to simplify my investments.

I want to get rid of some of the irrelevant ETFs I purchased in the past years, especially in the bonds area, and I want to focus on few core ETFs (global bonds, global stocks). Plus maybe some small bets to add a personal touch to the strategy. Some small cap, value, dividend… I like the idea of factor investing. Anyway, my strategy is still a bit fuzzy, I’m not focusing on that at the moment and it’s not the topic of this post.

Under the umbrella of “simplifying my portfolio”, a month ago I entered a couple of GTC (Good-Til-Canceled) Limit Sell Orders on Interactive Brokers for the ETFs I wanted to get rid of, with limit prices I was happy with.

I know that “I will sell when the price reaches X” is not a good strategy, don’t yell at me.

(Bi)Weekly Learning Journal 6 (12/10/2020)

Hi RIP readers,

welcome to the RIP (Bi)Weekly Learning Journal.

As you can see, this episode is mostly focused on creativity (writing, podcasting), productivity, entrepreneurship, learning, growing, mastery and few other topics that I think are well suited for someone struggling with their creative career.

Actually, the above mentioned are recurring topics in my WLJs. See previous entries about Paul Graham, Nat Eliason, Naval Ravikant. That’s where my curiosity wanders these days.

Asking myself to write and publish my Learning Journal is a kind of intervention. For myself, by myself.

And It’s working! I can feel a gentle push to get out and go wild, trust my skills and attitude, quit the career game entirely.

Time will tell.

Next episode on Monday October 26th, and I suspect will be centered around Naval Ravikant πŸ™‚

Enjoy!

P.S. I’m thinking about moving this series into a mailing list, probably on substack πŸ™‚
